Shalizaar, Belmont

Low-key, cozy place to spend a holiday eating some great food. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the place was packed on Christmas. This is at the new location on ECR, which is really pretty, more upscale-looking, but still very warm and inviting. Been here before, and visited the old place often, takeout too. Website, and pics not so good (phone cam).

Sabzi - Just garnishes that accompany the lavash. It's the Persian version of the free bread that shows up in other restaurants. The fresh herbs are basil, chives, mint, and cilantro, along with a radish, feta, and freshly cracked walnuts.

We started with the Kashk-e-Bademjan which is one of the most delicious we've had in the Bay Area, besides Alborz SF. It's cooked mashed eggplant topped with a yogurt sauce.

DELICIOUS: We'd already started on the Bargs before remembering to take a pic, which is why the filet's off on the right. And sumac already sprinkled over the dish.

Zereshk polo - Broiled chicken thigh and leg under rice mixed with sweet and sour barberries.
