The Barbeque Joint, Chapel Hill

Very friendly front counter guy, not quite hole-in-the-wall. Booths to sit at. Menu on huge blackboard, and was very mouthwatering to read - lots of New Orleans stuff like muffaletta (eggplant that day), gumbo, jambalaya. But we came for the BBQ. It wasn't what we expected - it was pulled smoked pork, dry, so we could add sauce ourselves from the bottle on the table. I expect charcoal, and ribs when I think BBQ. The sauce was good, just the right balance of vinegar. Cornbread was very good, and we thought the hush puppies were good, but our companion said he was disappointed with the consistency and seasonings (not enough). A large order served two. It was trippy to see the canteens of iced tea, sweet and unsweetened for self-serve too.
